Anthony Roden - tenor and vocal tuition
Studied with Arnold Matters, Donald Munro,
Alexander Young, Erich Vietheer and Professor Lorenzo Malfatti.
Anthony began studies at the Adelaide
Conservatorium .Donald Munro and Nancy Thomas,the great English contralto,insisted
that that he take a course at the London Opera Centre.After completion of a
year contracts came from Arts Council Opera for All and English Opera Group.
At this time he entered for the Hertogenbosch Vocal competition which resulted
in an agent offering several oratorio concerts in Holland Taking an accepted
route to Glyndebourne Festival
and Touring Opera Anthony sang the roles of Lensky, Tamino, Belmonte, Don Ottavio,
Gabriele Adorno, Florestan and Vitek over a period of years, during which time
he was awarded the John Christie Prize. A time with Krefeld
Stadtteater as principal tenor was followed by a three year contract with
English National Opera taking
on roles of Alfredo in La Traviata and Die Fledermaus, Ferrando, Tamino, Don
Ottavio, Camille, Werther and Idamante. Guest performances in Prague were followed
by a contract in South Africa for PACT.
An opportunity came to return for an Australian
Broadcasting tour of recitals, orchestral concerts and a South Australian Opera
production of La Traviata.There followed many successful years with the Victoria
State Opera and The State
Opera of South Australia performing principal tenor roles in Idomeneo, Samson,
Fly (First performance of Barry Conynghams opera) Don Giovanni, Fidelio and
Tannhauser. He has also sung with Welsh National
Opera, Scottish
Opera, Opera North,
Kent Opera, Royal
Opera (Peter Grimes), Die Zauberflote and Die Frau Ohne Schatten). Freiburg,
Graz, Theatre Angers, Madrid Real, Barcelona, Hamburg and Nederlands
Opera.
Anthony has been a senior visiting lecturer at the Royal
Northern College of Music for the past seven years and as well as maintaining
a private teaching studio.
